Brake Caliber Bolts Sheered Off
I just undertook changing my Rotors and what should have been a very easy job is turning out to be a nightmare.
Both caliber bolts sheered off when using a 10 mm 6 inch long allen wrench. I just don't know my own strength. But seriously, I don't think at 6 inches I should be able to break the bolts. But I was able to extract the caliber and get it out of the way. Sprayed the bolts with PB Blaster and waited. Came back with a 9 inch pipe wrench and nothing. Heated the bolts with an MAP torch for 5 minutes. Applied the wrench again and nothing. Finally managed to get the bolts to break again right at the threads in the housing. So I don't think an EZ Out will do the job. They are frozen solid. I guess I could take of the housing piece and wheel bearing assembly and bring in to a machine shop or just tow the whole dang car. So, the question is, can one easily remove the wheel bearing assembly inclusive of the threaded cast housing that the caliber mounts to? Or does anyone have any other advice. Working on the 911 is so easy until something like this takes places. Great car |
