2005 996 C4S questions... one more

Forgot to ask: 160 deg. or 186 deg. thermostat? I think it already has the 160 based on observed temp. on gauge.

Thanks, again.

Some people will advise you to stick with the stock 186 deg, personally I would go with the 160 deg thermostat and that's what I did on my car when I replaced the water pump (with OEM pump). I also installed the 3rd radiator and after both of those changes my engine has run noticeably cooler while still warming up generally just as fast as before and still easily getting up to full operating temp everytime I drive it. Hartech has a good writeup on why a low temp thermostat is a good idea, among other things... read PART 5 of their buyers guide here: Hartech | Porsche boxster engine repairs, Porsche engine repair, Porsche 996 engine repairs, Porsche engine problems

BTW, you have an 2005 996?

Yes, 2005 996 911 C4S. As I understand 2005 was the switch-over year for the 911 from 996 to 997. Read somewhere that there 4012 996's made for the shortened run in 2005. Just what I read! I am no expert by any means.

Think I'll go with the 160.

Thanks for the info.

Ah I see, in 2005 the C4S was only built as a 996. Interesting. Rare model to have. Enjoy it!

BTW, unless it was recently done then you prolly want to change the drive belt when you do the water pump and thermostat because it has to be removed anyway.

Again, certainly no expert here but I believe the C4S continued in the 997 form beginning sometime in 2005 and beyond. Not sure how many C4S were built in 2005 as 996's. Maybe it is rare I would just like to keep it running right now!

Drive belt...yeah I was going to change regardless of condition due to water pump failure and possible stress from that.

Thanks for suggestions

I totally agree on that Hartech article being a very informative read.
