strange transmission rattle

Good Morning I recently received a 2001 boxster conv nothing fancy however I have encounter a strange noise a very light knock from the rear of the transmission housing yes it is a manual transmission. The noise is there at idle standing still with clutch pedal out when clutch pedal is depressed the noise goes away. I bought the vehicle due to an oil from rear of engine, cust declined repairs at the dealer and just wanted to sell the car as is. My question is I can't find anything on transmission rattles except when they come apart and by then its to late and since I have to remove the transmission to repair the oil leak I figured to do both at the same time, has anyone experienced this issue and know maybe what to look for.
Thanks in advance

Cool

Just a normal gear to gear rattle if thats it I'll be happy. I know working on other vehicles one of the gears on the main shaft and or input shaft has a anti rattle spring built in to the gear sometimes they have to locked into place before assembly not sure if Porsche the same thing or not thanks

That would be my thought. Same thing when I switched to the LWFW on my 996.

My LWFW makes my car sound like a tractor. Revs fast. Super easy to Rev match. Love it.

Same thing here... 996 with a single mass light weight flywheel... funny rattle some times with the clutch in or out...
When you take out the tranny to fix the seal look around for any abnormal wear and tear... clean it up and put her back together!

PS. Enjoy!!!
