Best all-around tires for my 996?

I've had the Pirelli P-Zero's, Michelin Pilot Sports, and Bridgestones...
The Bridgestones lasted the longest but are horrible in even damp weather... the Michelin's were okay for the most part but extremely loud road noise. The Pirelli's seemed to perform the best all around but don't last much more than 8 to 10,000 miles.

Any suggestions for a good all around performing tire that will last beyond 10,000 miles?

I drive my 911 daily so while I like the high performance tire I can live with a little less performance if I can also drive in the rain without fear of sliding at every turn and get some longevity out of the tire.

Thanks

Michelin Pilot Super Sports + a proper alignment to prevent uneven tread wear which will cause noise from any tire.

I have Toyo Proxes on my C4S. Just replaced the rears after about 8,000+ miles. The fronts still looking good and will likely go well beyond 15,000. They offer good traction in the rain here in the Pacific NW but are grippy in the dry season also.

I really like the Continental Extreme Contact DWs. I've only put 3k on them, but they've been great in all conditions. I just moved from Colorado to central Florida and they were quiet on the highway and gave good gas mileage. I've driven them in downpours in Texas and Florida too, and they have great traction in the wet. Traction in the dry seems great, but I haven't pushed them to their limits yet. Lastly, I like the price. I think they're an excellent value for the money.

SeattleC5 - Which version of the Toyo Proxes are you using? I'm just north of you in Vancouver and could use a set of all seasons instead of the Hankook Ventus V12s that I'm using.

They are the Toyo T1R version.

Probably the best all-around tire with long tread life is an A/S tire. They usually wear twice as long as max summer tires. This would be my pick of the litter:
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Continental&tireModel=ExtremeContact+DWS

Good in all conditions while giving up a little max dry grip in favor of long tread life.

Just to add to the thread - I have DWS tires on my Boxster. Quiet, good in the rain but when I have tracked the car, they are pretty good but not great. You can get them to drift pretty easily (in some ways that is part of the fun). The outer edges get pretty trashed as well...

I second an All Season tire. I had the Continenta DWs on my car. I'm currently running the new(ish) Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3. It's very, very good for an all-season and was Tirerack's test winner.

They stated:

It's hard to quantify, but the tactile feel through the steering wheel has much of the characteristic directness of a performance summer tire rather than the subtle imprecision of the typical Ultra High Performance All-Season tire. Out on the track, the Pilot Sport A/S 3's handling prowess stood out from the others, with excellent ultimate traction, precision and very good composure when driving at the limit. This tire is so good it tempts you to carry a little too much speed through the corners.

Verdict: An athletic tire that resets the dry and wet performance standard for Ultra High Performance All-Season tires

This is a tire perfectly suited to the 911.
