My 99 boxster is coding 1531, indicating something with the camshaft, solenoid/actuator. Everything I have read says the car should be running really rough but the car is running great, no noise or rough idle or vibrations. Everything seems fine I cleared the code and two days later it came back on.
Help anyone have any ideas before I have to take it to the local shop?

P1531 indicates that your VarioCam actuator on bank 1 either has an open circuit or is defective. Diagnostics are to check the wiring harness connector for power and or continuity. If the harness is OK, you need to replace the actuator.

What do you think the cost of the replacement should be? Thanks for getting back to me.

That obviously depends upon what is wrong; a wiring problem can eat up a lot of shop time, if it is just the actuator, local parts pricing and shop rates would apply.
