Crankcase vent valve
I own a 2002 911 Carrera with 89,000 miles. The car runs well. My mechanic is suggesting I should have the crankcase vent valve removed and replaced. The cost would be $1600. Has anyone had any experience with this? Is it necessary?

If he is refering to the AOS & your car is smoking, you should do this.
If he is indeed refering to the $25 vent valve located on top of the rear corner of the right head, you should have your mechanic removed & replaced! |

crankcase vent valve
Thank you prodriver. just went with the tune up, drive belt replacement, & brake fluid flush for now. Car had been pushing out a large plume of oil smoke immediately after starting. Has since stopped doing that with no other indications of something amiss. He explained to me that he thought that may be the problem. Just got it out of winter storage and will drive it a while to see if there are any other issues. Thank you again for the feedback. Thankfully I have been doing business with these folks for over thirty years
