i have lived with my 1998 996 c2 roof not working for a yr and a half.
in all the time searching for help i have never found a page as helpful as this one. WELL DONE AND THANKS.

I took car to local INDEPENDANT PORSCHE garage who did tests they topped up fluid, replaced rear latch mechanism, swapped roof control module with another and durametric tested all sensors which all seemed ok.

some times it would work then when putting roof up would freeze around the service position about 8 inches from window screen. if car is left a couple of hrs it would work and close. which made me too scared to use it.
ive spent a lot of money and roof still dont work, it is stuck closed, nothing moves at all now.

can you help??? can you even do the works required. its depressing me as car is worthless in currant state !!!

Sorry to hear that...This can be hard to diagnose without seeing the car in action. When the top stops 8 inches from the windshield frame, does the top function in the down direction? Or does it just stop all together? When it stops does it sound like the pump is straining? Since all the electronics have been checked by the shop I would start to check fasteners for tightness and check the very basic things. Can you help the top past the point where it stops gently with your hand?
