Can I afford a 996tt??

No not a silly question, I'm just still up in the air about these cars. If I had a problem and it cost me 5k to fix it, I wouldn't be happy, but I could do it. Simple stuff I can do, and even changing out a pump or some vacuum lines, even replacing some suspension is all doable. Getting into the complicated motor and drivetrain stuff I would have to pass and take it to my mechanic. If it was 5k every year I would dump it and take my losses. I DO like that Mezger motor, and I'm pretty confident it will increase in price, but there's always that doubt. My other option would be to pick up a regular 996 for about half the price, and if it detonates I would lose a lot less money. Either way, it would be a 3-4k miles car a year (after that first year!).

If you have to ask whether you can afford any car then the simple answer is "no". The 2nd question is whether you NEED a car - as in will I lose my job if I don't have wheels. In this case NO Porsche is involved because if you are in that category then there are many Chevys etc available for much less. What I hate to see is someone buy a Porsche then nickle and dime it to death. If you can buy a car but can't afford proper care then I suggest allowing someone who can care for it to buy it instead.

I couldn't imagine putting $5k per year into a 996TT for maintenance/wear items unless you're having the dealer do all of the work.

100000 miles and just had my first issue...not quite sure what it is yet, but the initial cost of this car could be a fraction of something went wrong. 12000 trans, 20-30k motor....so if you want to do big mods, be prepared to drop 100k

Yeah....'ppreciate the responses, but I'm opting out on this kind of car. Might just sell the SC too, and stay focused on the Z28 and the AC Wildcat. I have tooooooooo many toys an not enuff brain cells!

FYI, Viper's and Z06's are cheap to maintain and repair if something minor/catastrophic breaks.
