LN IMS failure?

Hello All

I just had a local Porsche specialist shop did the complete IMS retrofit (Not something I can do myself). it turns out that my engine uses the dual row. I have 2 questions

1. I read somewhere that the dual row, even stock, are far more robust than the single row, virtually no failures were reported against the dual row. How accurate is this?

2. The shop that did the installation, they said that they had the LN kit failing after only 20k KM (12500 miles), hence they won't warrant the work on IMS. Has anyone had, or have heard of the LN part failing?

Thanks!
Godwine

While the dual row is a decidedly better performer than the single rows, they also suffer failures, just not in as large numbers.

There have been a handful of documented LN failures, but most were due to poor installations rather than the bearings themselves, or contamination by the failure of a non related engine component. There have also been "stories" about problems with the LN kits, but these came from a source that was openly promoting a different replacement, so a grain of salt is in order. At the end of the day, LN has 20K+ successful installs running around, so their reputation is not in doubt.

Thank you for the feedback. Hopefully the local "specialist" installed in properly

Assuming its proper installation, and there are no external factors causing any failure or contamination, and I do my oil change every 6 months, is the LN an eternal solution? or is there a recommended replacement period with them as well?

The only proven "permanent" IMS replacement is the LN IMS Solution, which uses a solid oil fed bearing rather than an a ball bearing style. The hybrid ball bearing versions need to be replaced about every 50K miles. Check LN's website for more data.
