1999 wheel size?

I bent one of the rear wheels on my 99 996 cabriolet. It has 9x18 wheels on the back with I believe 52 offset. Is this the correct factory wheel size?

I found some wheels forsale locally that are 10x18 with the same offset. We put one on to see if it would work and it looks like it sticks out too far.

Is there a problem running the wider wheels?

I believe when you go wider you need to have a different offset to the inside to maintain the tire to fender clearance on the outside. I don't know what the new offset would be but would suggest you go to Tire Rack and look at wheels to see what numbers they give you as alternate wheels for your year/model.

I looked up wheels on Tire Rack and all the 18" that they list for the rear are 10" wide. The offset is 65mm though which would put the outside edge in the same place as what is on my car now.

Did 996's ever come with 9" wide on the back or did someone put Boxster wheels on it?

I believe that all oem 996 wheels should have been 18x8 +50 for the front and 18x10 +65 on the rear. So perhaps you have boxster wheels in back as you suspect and the lower offset works because they're an inch narrower.

Ok, thanks for all the help. I think I have this figured out now. I probably wold have ended up with a set of wheels I couldn't used without the info here.

I think I will try making it till winter with the bent wheel. That will give my till late next spring to find replacement(s).
