P0453 diagnosis
My '99 Carrera recently threw a CEL with error code P0453, Evaporative Emission System Pressure Sensor/Switch High.
I replaced the gas cap, and that had no effect. I don't hear any noises like it's a venting issue as described in the 101 book. How can I troubleshoot this? Naturally I am planning to leave in one week for the PCA Escape- a 3k mile road trip- so I'd like to get this resolved before beginning that drive. Thanks! |

Yes, P0453 indicates that the pressure sensor is reading above its limit, which is usually a wiring short in the harness. Check your wiring from the sensor to the DME for a short to B+.

Thanks. What are the potential consequences of ignoring this until after my trip? I don't think I'll have time to dig into this before we're scheduled to leave on the road trip.

I would not ignore it. 3K miles makes for a long walk.
