I have a problem where I turn the key to start and most of the time it cranks, but sometimes not at all or other times there is a short delay while holding the key in the start pos. and then it will crank.
I thought it might be the ignition switch so I replaced it. Did not fix the problem. Anyone ever have this problem? If so how was it fixed?

Battery cables are subject to this issue. Check & clean all connections. There is a new updated ground cable that helps the issue which you may need.

I had exactly this problem on a Boxster. Check the micro switch on the clutch pedal. This is a normally open switch, but needs to be closed for the starter to work. This normally happens when you depress the clutch pedal to start the car, but the switch goes bad over time and the contract deteriorates. Disconnect the two spade connectors from the switch and temporarily connect them with a short piece of wire. If the problem goes away you have found the culprit and should replace the switch.

Hope that helps.

I jumpered out the clutch interlock when I bought the car. Been driving bout 60 years without that interlock, don't need it now. And yes, I did check the jumper connections.
I wonder if it could have something to do with the Imobilizer system?
