AOS Confusion
I'm a bit confused after reading the AOS technical article on this site in addition to various forum posts. Hopefully this is a simple question with a simple answer, but I couldn't find it in all the posts, etc. I read.
In what scenarios does the AOS have coolant lines associated with it and why? I replaced the AOS on my 02 986 S a few years ago and don't remember there being any coolant lines involved. I was doing some research on the 996 AOS since I believe one of the vent hoses is dripping oil down onto my motor (04 C4S), and found reference to coolant lines. What's the deal? Thanks everyone!

The 986 use a "dry" AOS, the 996 have water circulating in them.

I see, thanks JFP. Is the purpose just to cool the air down before being recirculated into the intake manifold?

No, to warm the AOS up so it works more efficiently.
