Brake pedal hard to push &ped sticks
After winter slumber my 97 Boxster has given me a new problem. When trying to brake pedal is very hard to push. After getting pedal to go down a little bit the pedal feels ok. The booster seems to work then. After pushing pedal down you must pull the pedal back or the brakes stay on. Checked all calipers ok. Checked actuating rod from pedal to back of booster, all seems ok. Thanks. Funi

If you have original rubber brake line hoses they have a tendency to swell on the inside with age. The passage restricts flow making the pedal hard to depress. The car is 19 years old...probably time to replace those anyway.

Remove the vacuum hose from the booster and check for moisture in there...Had a car that came from colder climate to sunny CA, and had the EXACT same symptom, the brakes would even drag once I finally did get the pedal to go down.
To check for the moisture in there just stick a long tie wrap or other non metal instrument in the vacuum hole and move it around, trying to get to the lowest part of the booster housing. Your "dip stick" should come out absolutely dry. Let me know how it goes! |
