various coil packs for 997.1 C2S? which number?

Hi All

I have a 2005 997.1 C2S down under. 65000km. Very good dry conditions, NZ new car so no salt/rust etc.

Just replaced the sparkplugs and found the 3 coils on the left hand bank have hairline cracks in them, nothing like some of the photos I have seen and not giving any issues but probably need to be replaced.

Now, these part numbers are:

On my car: 996 602 102 00 (short bolt)

Supposed to be from the parts Katalog (short bolt): 997 602 104 00

From Pelican parts (long bolt version): 997 602 104 02

So my first question is:

Can I replace only the left 3 (and I guess it has to be at least 3) with the modern part number? (short or long bolt)

And: are the short and long bolt versions any better/worse then each other? I.e stay with short bolt or not.

And: why does my car appear to have 996 coil packs on it??? (which are even older than the 2005 997 parts katalog number), 996 602 104 00

Thanks

Your car in an early 997 and having the 996 part number coils does not surprise me. They do stuff like that, not to worry.

The new and improved bigger coils ARE supposed to be more resistant to cracking that the earlier coils were prone too, but if you're only doing three of them it is best not to mix using the two types of coils.
