Oil Leak From CCV Valve

The car in question is a 2002 Porsche 911, type 996 Carrera C4-S, with the 3.6 liter engine. I'm presently helping a friend with an IMS bearing replacement and while doing this job, he noticed oil around the RH (passenger side) cylinder head which has been the source of a small yet annoying oil leak. With the air cleaner and induction hardware removed, the engine appears as shown:

To the right of the AC compressor, there is a black plastic 2-branch fitting of "Y" configuration that looks to be plugged into the cylinder head. On one of the branches, an attached rubber hose leads somewhere. On the branch in question, there is no hose attached and oil appears to be coming from this area, as shown in the picture below:

Looking at this branch closer, there is an internal spring and metal ball which leads us to believe that this is a CCV (Crank Case Ventilation) valve which should have a hose attached, but doesn't:

The Bentley manual is very vague about the details here. I might add that the car was worked on by the prior owner which makes us suspicious that a hose was once removed and never replaced. Problem is that we can find no other fitting that might receive a hose from this CCV valve, and I just can't believe this was left open like this from the factory.

Can anyone comment?

There is no hose to connect to this "breather" part,it is common for oil to come out where you see it, the hose on the back side goes all the way to the other side of the engine & connects to the Air Oil seperator. Replacing both parts should reduce the oil leakage & consumption.
