Quick Jack and a 996
Thought I'd share some thoughts on my Quick Jack that I plan to use with my 996 GT3 ('11 E550 coupe and '14 Subaru Forester).
http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/shopcart/TOOL/POR_TOOL_BNDpak_pg2.htm After working at a shop with lifts, crawling under a vehicle on floor jacks wasn't as attractive as it used to be. A bad back also didn't help. Unfortunately, my garage ceiling height was not enough for a regular left. So I started looking at portable lifts and settled on the Quick Jack BL-5000SLX. The two units fit nicely under my stock height GT3 and, using the 3" rubber blocks (included along with 2' blocks) raises the car approximately 20". This is a good height to do brake work, oil changes plus the upcoming 60K service *plugs, serpentine belt...). It also enables me to lay on my creeper. The 3" collapsed height also makes it possible to store under the car with about 2" clearance. It comes with sets of 4 3" and 2" rubber blocks as well as a couple of racks to position the lifts along the side of the vehicle. There are short hoses attached to the lefts and longer hoses that go between the short hose and the pump unit. The units arrived in 3 boxes - one each for the lift units and hydraulic and another with the pump unit. "Some assembly required" entailed attaching the quick connects onto the pump and hoses, filling the pump reservoir with 2.5qts of ATF, filling the air cartridges and purging the hydraulic cylinders. The owners manual could be improved (like what size wrenches and better grammar/organization) but the 800# support was quick and very good. I am impressed with how easy they are to set-up and use. Here are some pic of the unit under my GT3: ![]() ![]() ![]()

Any Issues
Just looking to buy one for my 996 GT3.
Did you have any issues and did the Quickjack clear the tyres. I just measured up and it seems to just about miss the tyres. Grateful for your feedback. Cheers Alex PS mine is a UK spec so lower than US. |

No issues clearing my stock 18" setup - a couple of inches of clearance on both front and rear.
In addition, the 3" collapsed height enables me to stock the ramps under the car. PM me if you need more info. Thanks

I assume it has only one lift height right? All the way up or all the way down? And do the rubber blocks match up with the front and rear lift points? Do they lock into the oval shaped hole, or just contact the bottom surface?

The 5000 could have been the model that was too large for earlier 911s.

The lift needs to be ll the way up to lock. And yes, the do the rubber blocks match up with the front and rear lift points by positioning correctly in the trough and just contact the bottom surface. I have alumni pucks that do lock into the car's lift points that I did not use.

Great stuff, thanks for sharing those pictures. If anyone has some questions about the QJ this thread here has lots of detailed information: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/905491-free-ground-shipping-purchase-quickjack-lift.html. I've also posted below the lifting and measurement information for the QJ's below:
