996 Tuneup: Ignition Coils changed

Heads up when you need to replace your 6 ignition coils. They have been changed and as a result the heat shields that cover each side of the engine no longer fit back on. Why? I wondered myself when I got the new coils to switch over on my car. Behr now makes them with longer bolts. And unlike the old allen bolts, they do not fit below the end of the coil, they sit on top of the end of each coil. So that means the heat shields do not fit. I called Pelican and they said, well that is the correct coil, and yes it does replace the old coil but we do not know what people are doing to mount the heat shields back on the car. So, I called Porsche. The salesman said that Pelican is right, however, he also noticed that you can now purchase spacers for the heat shields. These spacers raise the heat shield off the engine block and allow for the required clearance needed for the new mounting bolt heads that protrude beyond the top of each coil. You have a choice of a 3mm spacer and a 5 mm spacer. And Porsche recommends ordering four of them, for the four bolts total used to mount the two heat shields. Which thickness you use is up to you I guess, but I would recommend ordering 8 spacers just in case. They are cheap and will ensure that the heat shields will mount back on the engine with the higher profile of each coil and bolts. Also, the heads of the bolts are no longer allen head, they are the star head and can be tightened with an 8mm socket and wrench. See new profile in this photo: See this photo for old profile and note mounting screw locations:

I forgot to add the Porsche part numbers for the spacers that will raise the coil cover heat shields off the engine block to allow for the new coil protruding mounting bolts: (3mm) 999-025-193-30 OR (5mm) 999-025-220-30

is replacing coils considered a routine maintenance item? if so, at what interval?
