Will new mid engine 911 race car mean same for street car?

What do you guys think?

The new RSR race car is mid engine reportedly primarily so the diffuser can be larger.

I wonder if they will go mid engine with the street car? if so what about the Cayman? how will they differentiate Cayman and 911 - 4 cyl vs 6 cyl?

Not sure this is the right forum but I like you guys (and gals).

We had a similar discussion at our off-season breakfast gatherings after the new RSR was shown at Geneva. We were wondering if any street version was necessary to homologate the car for racing. Still do not know the answer.
The Cayman/Boxsters will be 4 cylinders except for the GT4 Cayman. It will remain a 6 cylinder n/a car.

One thing that just came to my mind was the whole back seat thing. Having that small back seat is sort of required for a 911....isnt it? A mid engined lay out would eliminate that.

Boxster/Cayman are already mid engine

back in '96 thru '98 they built mid engine 993s called GT1, they won their class at Lemans in '96(2nd overall beaten by a Jost Porsche prototype), '97 wasn't a good year but for '98 the 993GT1 took 1 & 2 overall at Lemans
