Porsche 996 Cabrio Motor Flap Assistance Aisle One Please

Porsche 996 C4 Cabriolet

The little flap that goes up and down on the right hand side moves very slowly, I mean very slowly. I've tried lubricating the tract and that helps, but not to where it works seamlessly.

I have no idea how to remove the assembly and if it can be removed without removing a whole lot of other things.

Question:
1. Can the assembly be removed to be inspected
2. How hard is it to remove
3. Can the motor be replaced if that's the issue or is it a complete unit

I suggest being very careful and do considerable research before removing.

Last weekend I replaced the 2 hydraulic rams that open/close the cabrio top because one was leaking. After I finished, the top somehow was out of sync and required calibration, which requires Porsche computer software.

There are multiple switches and sensors in the top and if you remove the part you are describing, you may impact operation. Just do your homework prior.

BTW, my repair bill is going to be over $2,500 since the front latch is shot as well. It alone has 2 or 3 switches/sensors that communicate the the control module. The part alone is $1,600.

Matthew,

Great advice and agree on the price of the replacement parts.

I ended up removing the carpet panel and lubricated the screw drive that moves the unit up and down with good silicone lubricant (not W40). It now moves up and down with zero resistance. Seems that parts gets dry and application of some good lubricant makes it all work perfectly.
