should I buy a used set of tires?

Greetings...I was recently offered a "nearly new" set of Contis for my 2010 C4S...they look to be in great condition and have nearly 9/32" on them...does anyone have any recommendations, assuming the tires are in good condition, I shouldn't expect any problems, right?

thanks!

How old are the tires? They have a date code on them. Tires do have a "shelf" life - a throwaway threshold. I've heard 5-6 years. I'd want to know why they were taken off. For example, if they were out-of-round, flat-spotted (from sitting or skidding), bead troubles, or severely out-of-balance, that would be a showstopper.

Thanks John...they are from 2015 the tread looks fine, and the bead looks good (as far as I can tell)...the price is right, but there are unknowns that will be come evident, I'm sure, once they are mounted

I appreciate the input

Will these tires match the other two? Different brands may produce different handling issues. What about tire wear rating? They should be the same or close to your other two. A set of 'hard' rears and 'soft' fronts (or vise versa) may produce instability in hard cornering or wet conditions. The tires won't deliver the same grip if the compounds are widely different.

Thanks Tony..they do match and are only a couple years old, I can't see if there are any issues, but I am obviously not a tire expert...thanks for the feedback

I've done exactly this before without issue.

You just have to wrap your head around the reality that the fronts and rears will wear differently and just replace when necessary.

The used set I put on the rear of a 993 went faster than the fronts and then I just replaced all 4.
