By 1964, Porsche was moving full steam ahead on their new 900 series (911) sports car. The 356 production was winding down. There were less than 2-years of production left in the 356. This last model was introduced as the “C”. Besides disc brakes all the way around and a sway bar, they also introduced the new SC (Super Carrera) model. The SC boasted 95hp (21% increase over the standard) from a 9.5:1 compression motor with dual Solex carburetors.

This Porsche was built on February 25th, 1964 and sold new by West Slope Motor Company of Portland, Oregon on May 1st, 1964. This was the Porsche dealer of the area. Although not much is known about the early ownership of this 356, it has always lived in the Portland area.

A well-known and respected long-time collector/enthusiast in the area found the car several years ago in a local garage. It had been in storage for over 30-years. It wasn’t running, but was a nice dry and complete example. Based on the condition and long-term storage, we believe the miles to be original.

In September of 2015 (less than 200-miles ago), the original numbers matching engine was completely rebuilt. 1720cc Mahle pistons and cylinders were used as well as the heads rebuilt. The car was completely sorted and prepared for the Monte Shelton Northwest Classic Rally. Unfortunately, the owner was unable to attend and the car has been in dry storage since.

Upon the car being delivered to us, we immediately had our local Porsche air-cooled specialist do a complete inspection and make sure everything was ready for road use. A major service was performed which included new spark plugs, adjust valves, new valve cover gaskets, cap, rotor, and plug wires. Also, the throttle was adjusted and carburetors tuned/balanced. The brake system was flushed and all hoses tightened/checked. The older fuel was drained/flushed as well as cleaning out the entire fuel system. The rear fuel lines and fuel filter were replaced. When the valve covers were off, the rocker shafts were checked/retorqued. Visually, the mechanic noted that everything in the engine appeared to be new and fresh. Finally, a compression test was performed and the results were excellent: 1) 170 2) 170 3) 160 4) 168.

Now, this 356 simply needs to be driven and broken in with another oil service scheduled in 500-miles.

This SC is in very good condition and would make the perfect event car. It would be ideal for vintage tours. The paint looks great with very few blemishes. The chrome wheels were recently replaced from Stoddards and look perfect. All the metal panels appear to be original with proper stamps on the deck lid and trunk lid. The underside is nice with just a few minor blemishes. A patch was installed on the driver side floor (see pic). Also, the battery box has been replaced at some time and the work was ok with signs of wear (see pics). The trim, brightwork, and glass are all in excellent condition. The exterior looks fresh. The interior is equally as nice and shows just light wear. The vinyl seats have no tears or cracks. The carpet, door panels, and headliner show minimal signs of use. The dash has no cracks or tears. All the gauges operate properly except for the clock. Even the original Blaupunkt radio still works.

This 356 SC is a joy to drive. It starts easily on the first try and holds a nice idle. It warms up fairly quickly and has excellent throttle response. The gearbox shifts smoothly with no grinding or slipping. The brakes have recently been bled and have a nice responsive pedal feel with good initial bite. This Porsche is the ideal car for the enthusiast that wants a collectible model, but won’t be afraid to actually use it.

This Porsche comes with a factory tool kit (not complete), spare, Kardex, and jack.

Yes, engine number and transmission numbers are matching. No COA yet...on order. However, the Kardex is far more accurate and is attached above and shows numbers matching.
