it's a matter of the compression ratio. Turbo engines run a much lower compression than normally aspirated engines.
As far as the 944 is comcerned, I think it's only different pistons. Possibly a different head casting and probably camshaft profile. But that should be the only internal differences.
Of course the intake, exhaust and ECU are going to be different. But that's all bolt on stuff.
And you can bolt it all on to a stock 944NA and it will run. But you will probably destroy your engine within a few minutes without making the internal changes first
