DME fault codes
I have Wayne's two books; great resource. My '85 E30 with 6 cyl and 5 speed (205K miles) has been acting a bit woozy-hesitating and stumbling on acceleration.
Does the gas pedal method work with the M-tronic 1.0 for reading fault codes? I can't get it to. Jim |
Hi Jim - welcome to the forum! Take a look at the link below to one of our site's DIY tech articles - I hope it'll help you troubleshoot your issue.

Give me more of a description and maybe I can help you diagnose.. |
Thanks, I thought there was a limit to those older units.
I am continuing to diagnose it. One item is I use a K&N air filter and the mass airflow sensor is just downstream. People have said to clean it with special cleaner and this might be it. I also just adjusted the valves and I'm getting a "tick, tick, tick" but it runs smoothly, just givee me the hesitation. Do I need to re-adjust the valves? Jim |

A good running M20 sounds like a sewing machine... which makes knowing when to adjust valves a little tricky.. For me the sewing machine sound gets more pronounced, it sounds a bit more diesel ish.. a much louder ticking.. If you just adjusted the valves - you are probably ok, its a fairly simple procedure. |
Thank you; am still on it.
