Question ECU/DME Question

Last Friday my car started running like an old diesel truck with no power. Took it to an indy BMW mech and they said the ECU was going bad. It was reporting no power to cyl #2. They checked out cyl #2, plugs, compression and coil and all checked fine. Then they checked the wiring from coil 2 to the DME and again all was fine. Checked for water damage to DME, all fine. I took it for a second opinion and got the same results.

Now for the question, does the whole DME need replacing or does the cyl power checks reside on the replaceable ECU chip? So in other words, could I just replace the chip, as a lot of you do with the performance JC chips, or does the cyl power information reside elsewhere in the DME?
Thanks.

what about fuel injection? Did they check fuel injector for cyl. #2? also fuel preasure regulator? when everything in ignition and fuel delivery/injection systems is fine then suspect control module.

You need to determine if this is ingition or fuel injection. It's possible that a coil pack may have gone bad, or a clogged injector?
