electical people - HELP please

OK guys,

This should be an easy one for you.

Whenever it is raining outside, my complete gauge console dies and then comes back 2-3 seconds later.

All gauges (gas, speed,RPM,temp) except back light stays ON.

It seems to be linked to the start-up sequence because when it does come back it goes through showing me the inspection lights (green blocks)

Before I start completely tearing into every wiring harness to see where the problem is, could someome please point out to me what area I should look at first. Is someone familiar with where the leads are for the gauges?

Thanks in advance

Oh, sorry - forgot that one.

It's a 1994 320i

On a side note - why the heck can't I find many sites about the 320i e36

Most every parts manual I look at go from 318 to 325.

(such as looking for what sparkplugs, oil filter, etc.)

Lately I have just been buying parts for a 325i but I am going through a mojor overhaul on this thing and would like to buy a car specific manual (for such things as Bore/stroke, rear differential ratio, gear ratio, etc.)

I am building a 2.0 liter modified for my daughter.

once again - great site!

First off, the 320i was never really imported to the US, so there isnt a lof of info available. I dont know of any 320i manuals available on the market.

Second, i would check the ground points throughout the car. Sonds like one of them may be loose.

320i was imported only to canada as 4-door model only. that is why in technical publications that come from usa don't have any info on 320i!
there is no reason to despair though as 320 engine is the same M50 just like the one in 325's, the only difference is in stroke and the rest is the same. thus you may order any part from 325 bin except connecting rods.
gear box is the same on 318/320/325 but differential ratio might be different from 325!

Thanks for the info about the car.

I always found it strange that web searches for 1994 320 e36 only brought me German web sites!

I will look at the grounds.
Thanks

You also might want to check for any leaks that may be shorting out any boards in the car.
