short shift kits

alright , when i first bought my car , 1 of the very first things that had to go was the sloppy factory shifter . i ordered mine form bmp , mainly because they are 1 of the only companys offering it for the 84 318 . its just barely 2 yrs old ,and it snaped in half inside the upper lever . my ? is , has any 1 else broke one of these before , and is there any kinda of mod kit out there so i can use the machined type shift tower, instead of the flimsy steel crap i have to deal with now . hmmm , i never knew steel could "snap " clean in half
