I need help with my timing belt issues with my 1991 325i sedan. I created a new thread this evening. All the background info is in there.

Essentially, i need to know the following: Right now, i don't know for sure if my timing belt is, in fact, broken. If so, is it at all possible that i didn't do major damage to the engine? I was in a turn and didnt have my foot on the accelerator. Essentially, the engine was at or near idle speed. any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
matt

If it broke or the belt teeth sheared off then, you more then likely damaged a few of the valves.

Camshaft and crankshaft reset?

Hi Wayne,

On project 20, photo 8, skipped to photo 14 to replace the camshaft seals. In doing so i accidentally rotated the crankshaft pulley after the belt was off. After realizing this I manipulated the crank by attaching and readjusting the belt so that it and the camshaft sprocket would both line up at TDC. With both (crank and cam) lined up at TDC, and the belt on, the crank pulley will not rotate more than 100 degrees.

Are there steps to reset? Maybe the crank needs to rotate another 360?

Please advise.

Thanks
