Onboard Computer Question

I was wondering about that Onboard Computer. I have an 11 Button Check Control / Ambient Temperature/Clock one in my 1998 M3. I recently Discovered The Full Onboard Computer In My owners Manual & Have since spotted several for sale on e-Bay.Can someone please Explain to me the Differences Between these Multi-Information Displays & If I can upgrade to the Full Onboard Computer Version? Is It worth it And Is It A Matter Of Just Unplugging The Old One And Plugging In The New One? If It Is Im Buying One On e-Bay. Thanks Guys...Mikey
