Alignment settings w/M3 Control Arm Bushings
I'm getting ready to refresh my front end. I want to change everything from the strut tower bearings, to the struts, to the control arms and tie rods ends.
I have read that the M3 lower control arm bushings (lollipops) will reduce tramlining - the tendency to follow the ruts in the road. I would love to hear from someone that has installed these busings - did it reduce tramlining? what suspension alignment settings were used? any other front end suggestions? 95 325i w/sport package 85k Thanks in advance

I installed the 95 M3 strut bearing in my 98 328is. Bilstein HD H&R OE sports...align using sport package specs...

Do you use the M3 suspension settings? or Sport Suspension? Did you also replace your control arms with M3 arms or just the bushings? Thanks.

Don't the M3 strut bearing increase caster by tilting the strut assembly back toward the rear of the car and the LCA bushings increase camber by pusing the bottom of the wheels out? I thought the M3 strut bearing had more of an impact on tramlining than the busings. The increased camber is better for a track car to keep the outter wheel flat during hard cornering. I'm not challenging anything you said, just to understand a little better. Thanks.

I installed the 95 M3 strut bearings which induce +3 deg positve castor over the normal ones. total = ~6 deg... no additional camber, I don't track the car...The lolllipops help with castor as well. Picture it like a boomerange pivoting about the center corner, being pushed out by one of the others. In this case pushing the bottom of the strut back (toward ther rear of the car) which adds more castor. this is if you use the offset ones. the normal ones just stiffen things up... |

Thanks. Which lower control arm bushings did you use? The standard 3 series, the 95 M3 offset busings, the 96 M3 bushings, or some other? Thanks again for the informative reply. PS I just switched to my winter wheel/tire combo - 205/60/15. The tramlining is gone, but it will return with the summer 225/50-16s.
