318is intake manifold hose puzzle

OK, I should have taken notes/pictures...
Failed smog for bad rubber. Kept going deeper and finding more bad custom hoses, etc...
Are there any diagrams, or pictures of the intake manifold area?
I have the Bently manual, nothing.
Any help appreciated. Thanks, Bob

Hi Wayne,

Thanks for the support.

I'll be very curious to see how your supercharger project turns out.

My engine looks a little differennt. It's a '91, VIN WBAAF931MEE70820.

I've rolled the BMW out as I'm doing a timing chain on a 900S now...

I'll post some pictures soon. Definately the strangest hoses I've ever seen.

Thanks again,

----Bob

Hi Wayne,

I bought the E30 manual first, but the pictures did not look like my engine.

I was able to exchange the manual for the E36, and that looks to be correct. Oddly, the 1991 year does not show on the cover of either manual.

I'll post some pictures shortly, that should help clarify...

Again, thanks,

----Bob

In 1991, it would be an E30 318is. This car is somewhat of a rare one. A lot of people think that with the exception of the M3, the E30 318is is the best handling E30 ever built. Im gonna see if I can dig up a diagram for you. It shouldnt be too hard to figure out even if I had some pics.

The engine 1

OK, it's dirty.

Six miles of dirt road in my commute, and it's been sitting...

I can't beleive the 'grafting' of hoses onto/around the pipe.

Is this sub-assembly correct?

Hi Guys,

The VIN is:

WBAAF931MEE70820

The handling is superb.

It is not quite at home on six miles of challanging dirt road in the Santa Cruz Mountains, however.

I have gone through three lower oil pans as they are cast, and not stamped. And some JB-weld also...

Interestingly, when a hole is punched in the pan, (say from a rock, maybe?) the suction from the oil pump keeps the oil in the engine until it is turned off. Then you need kitty litter.

Do you know anyone who makes a skid plate for this model (!)?

Again thanks.

Fly Low,

----Bob

I think it goes without saying, DONT drive the car with a hole in the oil pan. You may want to consider getting the skid plate that covers the bottom of the engine. I think it's still available from BMW.

Hi Jared,

I'm pleased to learn that BMW makes a skid plate!

Mmmm, BBQ halibut with a butter, garlic, coarse and fine black pepper sauce for breakfast.

Give Thanks,

I think that even if I had photos of what it looked like before, it would be a task to get it all back together. One recommendation for everyone - buy a digital camera and take some pics before you start.

I'll see if I can find a useful hose diagram...

Part number is 51-71-1-971-001

Should fit the 318is, not 100% though
