M Logo computer chipping

can anyone shed some light between a turner motorsport (conforti) ,.....bav auto,,......and dinan computer chips,...and will it really make a difference?? it's a lotta money and I want to be able to move it into other cars (if its worth the prices they ask for these things)

As I understand it, the JC chip remaps the entire power curve even at part throttle. The Dinan comes in at full throttle opening therefore part throttle operation is stock. This is what I had read awhile back. I went with the JC (from Turner Motorsport) chip in my '89 325i and am very satisfied. Jim Conforti is regarded as the best guru around when it comes to BMW engine management. As for swapping between cars you have to be careful. When you order a chip they ask you for your ECU number. There are several different ECU numbers (9 for i engines, 2 for e engines, 1 for the newer 318 and 3 for the M3) and different Motronics (1.0, 1.1, 1.3, 1.7) depending on the year and whether you have an e or an i engine. When you order a chip ask about interchangeability. They should be able to give you the best answer without destroying an ECU. The Bavarian Autosport chip is from a Florida company that I have heard mixed reviews of. It is not a rebadged JC chip.

From all I've heard, they should make a difference, however that difference will depend on the car that it is on. A 325i gains 10 peak hp for example, but 15 somewhere else in the power band. I've heard some call it the best first mod. I just got my 87 325is and I haven't decided whether to chip it yet. I don't want to lower the gas mileage, but if it only lowers it by 1, I don't care too much and the bump in power would be fun.

Also I hear the same things about JC chips. If you get a chip, get that one.

I would not worry about gas mileage. Mine improved almost 10%, however you will be using premium fuel with a minimum of 91 octane. I found the throttle response to be better also. The 16 added hp is at 5000 rpm w/JC chip. That means the peak hp at 5800 rpm improves to about 177-182 hp from a stock 168. Torque also improves. I am running a 1989 325i. One additional thing, when ordering a chip for a 325i, the vendor will ask whether you have an automatic or manual tranny.

it came,..it saw,.it conquered!!I got the jc from turner motorsport and it has transformed the agile kitten into a crazed bobcat. now my only problem is driving in the rain with the beast and finding fat rear tires to fit these 14 rims as I dont want to change it too far from stock. I have anticipated this computer upgrade as I already have the K/n filter and an ansa exhaust (too quiet) overall driveability is much improved and I even had to warn my wife about heavy throttle when turning! best 250$ ever spent
