98' 328i- Auto Tranny Question

Awesome site- Great info.

Here's my problem-

When putting the car into drive from park- the action needs more force than it used to and it makes a audible chunk sound. This happens in all shift combinations- from park to drive- drive to reverse- etc. No slipage once engaged- Seems to shift fine through the gears while driving.

Also does anyone know of a good bmw mechanic in the nyc area?
The BMW on 57th st is not great- looking for alternative-

What kind of oil should I use- since the car is just out of warranty i was planning on starting to do some of the basics my self
