328i Hardtop?
Just bought my first Bimmer, a 1997 BMW 328ic. First car I've ever bought that I actually view as more than just an "appliance"
to get me from point a to point b. Really enjoying it so far, but one question: where can I find a hardtop for this convertible? I've googled, and I've searched all the obvious websites, but there don't seem to be many on the market. I know BMW stopped making hardtops for the E36 chassis, but is the used parts market for these THAT tight? Anyone with a line on where I can look? stlBMW |

OK, now the other "problem" is that the "Check Engine" light keeps coming on. I've had it back to the dealer I bought it from twice already. First time, they hooked it up to the diagnostic and reset the light and told me not to worry, probably the gas cap. Second time, they "reprogrammed" the emissions computer system. That "fix" lasted all of two days.
Anyone have any thoughts on what this could be? |

What do you mean by "emissions computer"? Is it ecu that they reprogrammed? Did they read any fault codes for you?
That is so weird! For example, "Check engine" light could be on because of such a simple thing as bad intake air temp. sensor or borken wire to it! Of course there are other things to be checked, but in automechanics it is like a rule that one suspects the ecu last! I wouldn't go to that dealer ever again! Even for oil filter! |

Yeah, stay away from that dealer/shop. Where ever you go, ask what the fault code is that is showing up.
As far as the hardtop: http://www.peakebmw.com/Accessories/autoaccess/auto04C.htm |

Thanks for the replies!!
Well, the shop I bought from "fixed" the problem, although it has come on once again briefly. I haven't seen the "Check Engine" light for a while now. I won't be taking her back to that shop. I've got a local mechanic thats worked other cars for me. Very honest and ethical. They (the shop I bought from) told me it was some computer issue related to emissions. Thanks for the hardtop link. They are difficult to find for the E36 chassis. I'll put it on the "wish list". Maybe some day. |
