master cylinder
quick question, according to midas i need a new master cylinder , however the car still stops pretty good i was wondering if maybe bleeding the system or bleeding the master cylinder could help. the pedal goes pretty far to the floor before the car stops , also if i just replace the pads and will i still be able to get by for a few months cuz i really dont want to throw 500 bucks into the brakes just right now.

If in fact the master cylinder is bad, bleeding wont make much of a difference. More than likely the check valve in the master cylinder is gone, and is what is causing the loss of brake pressure. If you have no brake pressure, it doesnt matter if you have new pads or not, there is going to be not enough hydraulic pressure in the sytem to force the pads against the rotors.
Personally, I wouldnt take chances on my brakes. It sounds like the master cylinder needs repair. Replacing a master cylinder is easy, You could do it yourself and save some money. The hardest part is bleeding the brakes. |

How about rebuilding the master cylinder? Do you guys have kits for this, and tips on how-to? Is it worth the trouble?
