Are the engine wiring harnesses different?

Can you do a plug and play swap of a 325I longblock into a 325E car? Will the wiring harnesses match up if you use the Eta intake and exhaust? Thanks in advance for any help.

Not quite. The crank position sensors are different on the two. You would have to take the harness out of the 325i probably. Not very hard, though.

You also need the i's engine computer.

The harnesses are not the same. Positions of components are different, connectors are different, and the computer is different..

Hmmm thanks alot for the info. Someone told me that the long blocks are interchangeable. I am only asking because my engine has a questionable future at best.

Like I saidf before, it is a much better idea to buy a 325i than put a 325i motor into a 325e..

Figure it this way... You'll spend at least $3500 for a rebuild on the e motor. For that amount you can get into a nice 325i or is.

Id just get a low mile E engine from the junkyard for a few hundred dollars. And as it is if the engine is dead the car isnt really worth anything. I think it would be cheaper to just buy an I engine and put it in than to try to sell a dead Eta and a whole car. I dont know, hopefully the engine will just last me through the winter.

Yeah maybe your right. At best maybe Ill throw the I cam and springs on it. But then I have to bring the head to the machine shop to have the oil journal drilled.

I would like to get an I or IS in the furute. Maybe even an early E36, they seem to be fairly economical.

I just got a 87 325 is for $750, looks great and runs like a scalded dog. needs floormats, power antenna, steering pump, new dash or cap, allready replaced a rear wheelbearing, people are scared of the little bs things that have to be done to maintain a 17 year old car, drives the price down. I had an 87 325e that the ex got, and the 325is is so much more fun to drive.

Id consider getting rid of my car to get an iS but the body of my car is just so perfect that I am reluctant to get another one. My car also has 130K, which isnt very much for how old it is. The previous owners took VERY good care of this car. When I do replace it Id like to get a 90-91.
