Have you checked the follwoing things?

vacuum leaks
O2 sensor
spark plugs
fuel filter

This could be a variety of different things.

Have you run the codes on the car..

If not.. read this...http://www.pelicanparts.com/bmw/techarticles/Mult-Code_Reading/Mult-Code_Reading.htm

I had the exact same symptoms one time after washing my girlfirend's 318. I did a light wash on the engine, but it turned out I got water somewhere it shouldn't have been, and that caused the misfiring. I took it to a shop where they cleaned it up for $40. I don't know where the water ended up being, but it seemed like an easy fix. Have you exposed the engine compartment to water recently?
