Exhaust Twang
I just helped a friend buy a 2001 M3. It is a great car, and has a Tubi exhaust which is beautiful sounding. But, it has this twang or resonance when you step on the gas at higher rpms. Everyone seems to tell me this is typical of all M3s. I have to admit I've heard it on another friend's M roadster. Some people say they actually like it. But, to me, it is downright bad - sounds like light medal vibrating, like some heat shield somewhere. Isn't there anything that can be done about it?

I continued to search. I did find a place that claims to be the only cure to the sound. http://www.uucmotorwerks.com/raspx/
Of course it's $950. If anyone has an alternative, I'm listening. Seems that one could keep all the stock pipes and simply replace the one resonator with the double one they show and perhaps get the same results. Perhaps the second one that already crosses the two pipes might need some change too. But, I have to think it can be done for less than $950. Jay |

I've heard nothing but praise for the RaspX systems. It seems as though it would be well worht the money.
I have a similar twang on my own car after doing my own exhaust modifications. I found that eliminating the catalyitc converter helped it somewhat, however thats not really legal to do.. |
