Key won't turn

Hi,

The ingition on my friends 1988 325i's car won't turn to start the car. It will turn a bit (just enough to get the warning lights on the display to light, sometimes) but not enough to crank the engine. What is causing this problem?? The car is stuck in a mall parking lot and some kind of solution would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I had this same problem with my car and it turned out to be a broken ignition cylinder. You may have to do what I did and drill the cylinder out enough to withdraw the remnants, then replace the cylinder. It's not an easy job unfortunately.

Thanks for the response, Jared. Is there any other possibility that I should explore?

Jared,

Could you please mail me the part number and/or link and some basic instructions on how to replace the cylinder? I'd really appreciate it. My email address is: sagesse2002@lycos.com

Thanks in advance!

It would be better for you to give me a call, as there is a lot of work involved here and I think it would be easier to go over it over the phone.
