The bad news is that it froze in the down position and I had to drive 2 hours home in unseasonable cold June weather.
The better news is that after testing it, it's not the motor that's faulty, but rather the power supply wire. I think it's the same problem for the other rear window, too. Has anyone else re-wired this connection from the relay under the instrument cluster? It's not that bad I suppose. It will force me to rewire the speakers, fix the ABS fuse under the dash, and replace the worn odometer gears. And, if I can find the part, I'm going to put in an oil tempature gauge in place of the highly annoying MPG gauge. Or maybe just disconnect it.

I would be wondering exactly what caused that circuit to fail. Did you check the fuses? Is the switch still good? In a pinch, what I would do is pull the front window switches out of the console, then jumper the power lead from those to the rear windows. It will at least allow you to roll the windows up for the interim.

I actually used a 12v power source directly at the motor lead to roll the window up. I had to figure out some way to do it - it was about to rain and I don't have a garage!
I tested the ground between the switch and the battery and there was no continuity. I also tested the 12v+ wire and could not find a voltage. I suspect that might have been because I couldn't get a good ground. At any rate, there is more testing to do. I think the next thing I'll try is a jumper directly from the relay and ground jumpered from the battery. That should create a circuit right?

It should work, I would try to figure out exactly where the break in continuity is from the switch and fix that before rewiring..
How good are you at electrics? I can probably send you some wiring schematics.. |

Schematics would be great. My employers should hope I'm good with circuits, since I'm an electrical engineer.
![]() I've got the bentley. It gives a pretty good rundown of the circuit. My problem is actually following the wiring in the car. I'm also going to need a new switch, since for some reason I decided it would be a good idea to test it with a high-current power supply. Nothing like a little vaporized brass. Oh well, as advisor taught me in school, the amount of equipment you destroy is proportional to the amount you learn.

If you have the Bentley, thats all you need. Just follow the current path diagrams and you ahould be able to figure out why you have no continuity.
"the amount of equipment you destroy is proportional to the amount you learn." Heh heh, got my share of damaged equipment. Especialy when I built my Marshall Super Lead clone amplifier.. |
