The Bentley manual for the e30 cars (1984-1991 3-series) is the way to go. As for AWD-specific stuff, a couple other members can chime in, but the bentley does a pretty good job of describing the differences between each model.

Basically, the Bentley E30 manaual will cover everything on the iX except for the AWD system. Do you have any particvular questions about the AWD? Maybe we can help?

"bulldog"

You can get a lot of info here and at www.bmwe30.net. The best site for technical information and fixes on your iX's AWD system (front / rear differentials, transfer case, etc...) is Gordon Haines iX Registry. $10 for lifetime membership. Send Gordon an E-mail.

The website is now inactive (Gordon has movd on to 5 and 7 series cars) but tons of archived information that is iX specific. I have been wrenching on mine for over 10+ years and have gotten most info from iX registry and Bentleys. Take the time to print out the 28 issues and set up in a 3-ring binder. Now you'll have an iX "3 Series enthusiast's companion" that easily rivals the slick yellow glossy one.

Hey Jared:

All the iXs have 33% front and 66% rear. Drives just like a RWD E30 ... except slower. (155lbs heavier b/c of front d-train and transfer case). Great site and advice BTW.

Thank you very much.

Think it would be kinda cool to have a iX with a huge lift kit, front and rear overriders, and lights. Go rallying..

Jared:

Take a look at Satch Carlson's (editor of Roundel and general colorful character) "bad Dog" iX. He runs many rallyes with it and has had the motor , tranny , suspension HEAVILY breathed on by the likes of Dinan, Korman, etc... I think he just rebuilt the motor for or because of the ALCAN rally. It might be a 2.8L now.

Would be lots of fun to run that thing around town
