Car died and now wont turn.

I got an 85 328e just awhile back. When I bought it, it ran. Except for a few minor problems, (and one major = fuel line crimped) I never could find anything really worng with the car, I let it sit in my driveway for about 6 months, then got it running again just a few months ago.

But just the other day while I was driving home, the car cut out. The dashlights went out and the car doesnt even turn over anymore.

It has plenty of juice and I checked all the fuses under the hood.

When I turn the key all i hear is a buzzing noise coming from under the hood.

Any help?

I'd check the battery cables first...

Then check to see that there arent any unplugged or broken wires or connectors around the engine.

Well, I checked the battery cables and they are fine. I looked at every wire up and down, and none are broken. Its almost as if there was a fuse blown that I just cant find.

Is where and how too much of a question? I was thinking it might be a relay but I wasnt sure which ones to check, then I realized, I dont know how!

Billy:

First: Buy the Bentley manual form our sponsor here.

Second: go to a BMW dealer and buy 2 main and 2 fuel pump relays (or get here). The FP relay is interchangeable with others.(at least on iS and iX and iC)

Third: Put these in your car and the spares in your glovebox. You will be needing them again.

The main and fuel pump relay are near the driver's side strut tower under a plastic cover housing 3 relays (on iS and iX cars ... think your is the same). They pull out and snap in like fuses.

I doubt I would buy a Bentley Manual. I prefer Haynes. And I actually have one around somewhere.

And I really do not like to just "replace and hope" to fix a car. Is there any way to check the relays before just tossing them out the window?

Another thing, why would the fuel pump relay make the starter not turn? Seems to me the fuel pump is actually working fine.
