As the subject states, my 1986 325es starts...then stalls. When it starts up, it'll rev for 3 or so seconds and then die. It's weird because after each stall, it won't start up for another 20-30 minutes. I just CAN'T get my car to idle AT ALL! What can be the culprit? Any suggestions will help me.

I suppose I would first need to get a little background info on what has been done to the car.
Have you checked the fuel system? Stalling can sometimes be caused by clogged fuel filters and fuel injectors. My first suggestion, however would be to run the codes on the car and see if that gives you any clues. http://www.pelicanparts.com/bmw/techarticles/Mult-Code_Reading/Mult-Code_Reading.htm Typically, 90% of the time, idle issues are caused by vacuum leaks in the fuel injection system. I would inspect and replace any hoses that are suspect or are cracked. This includes also the boot from the air flow meter to the throttle body and the valve cover gasket. |

Here's a background of my car's current condition:
Fuel Pressure: ~45psi Main/Fuel Relays are good Ignition system checks out as healthy No visual signs of cracked/worn vacuum hoses or air boot Can't use the carb cleaner trick to inspect for leaks Fuel Injectors and cold start valve all jet Haven't attempted the code readout yet, but other than that...is there anything else I should look at? Can the culprit be related to the fuel return pressure? |
