Trouble installing 5 speed

Been replacing clutch & now time to install tranny in my 87 325 ic 5 speed. Bought used tranny jack on wheels & having a heck of a time lining it up. Used Pilot tool to get clutch centered but it seems there' just little room to move the trany up to get lined up. Does engine rear have to be lowered or?? Any tricks I'm missing? Thanks Bob T.

well , from what i remember. when you take the tranny off, the engine settles more toward the front of the engine compartment , becasue of all the weight off the rear of the block , so , if you were to take a jack and just slightly tilt the engine back towards a more rear down front up position , it is sure to help alot , just make sure you use a jacking point on the engine that will not be damaged , or if you hafta use the oil pan as a jacking point , put a piece of wood in between the jack contact point and the pan , also use a piece big enough to cover as much surface area on the pan as possible!!! hope this helps

Hi Jonboy, 1st, thanks for taking the time to giving me some answers! I had a sneak thought the back of engine had to lower, but I hadn't thought of raising the front of the engine. It makes sence & Tommorrow I'll approach the job with a little more optimism than a couple days ago. I think it will go but I will be careful not to bend or break anything--like the input shaft. Thanks again Bob T. from R.I.
