my hood release lever under the dash has broken off leaving the cable behind and I can't get the hood to open even if i pull really hard.
Is there another way of opening/releasing the hood aside from maybe pring it open? please help thanks |

If there is enough cable left, just use a good pair of pliers to pull it open...

Kepp pulling.. I've had this happen before and it takes some effort. Perhaps try grabbing the cable over the side of the pliers ad rotate as you pull to simulate the effect of a pulley

elbcbimmer - my lever broke on my '88 because the release mechanism was corroded and needed excess force to pull it open. Try using some vise grips to really hold the cable, then pull nice and hard to open it (no jerking though)

I had that problem and it turned out that I had left something under the hood when I shut it. I got the hood open by pressing down on the hood at the latch while an assistant pulled the release lever. (The car was not a Bimmer)

also , if this still does not work , go grab the longest flat head screwdriver you have , and go to the front of the car , on the driver side , thru the grill about five or six or so inches to the inside of the highbeam there will be two bolt heads prettty much horizontalto each other , in the middle of these is a hole about a inch wide , stick the screwdriver tip in this hole and turn it around clockwise or either counterclockwise , it should pop right open , its a generally good idea to carry a big flathead just for this purpose , as this happes quite often from what i hear
Good Luck!!!!
