Unhappy Jumped time now what!!!

Last Friday while on my way to work as i was slowing down I heard some clinking noice then I lost all power and i coasted to a stop. Once i tried to restart all It would do is make this winding noice like the stater was just spinning but would not crank. After further investigation i discovered that the timing belt unraveled on one side. I assumed that the belt streched and jumped time. I replcee the timing belt according to my bently manual and it still did the same thing and would not start. A mechanic told me that there was no compression because the valves are bent therfore it will not start. Is this an accurate diagnosis? One quick timing question, when lining up the timing makes how do I know when it is TDC on the number 1 cylnder? If all that is true than what are my options and how much will it cost me. I can not afford another car and this is my only means of transport so I may as well fix it if resonable.

If it has no compression, you bent the valves...

Also, if there is no compression, the starter will spin very easy..

You need to remove the head and examinee the damage, if youre lucky, the pistons werent damaged and all you'll need to do is rebuild the head. If the pistons are damaged, you might as well rebuild the whole engine...

I suppose you could, however you really need to check the pistons.

If they are gouged they must be replaced.. (chances are, they have been gouged)

I'd be more concerened about what caused the belt to slip in the first place... they HAVE to be replaced every 60K without exception...

Taking the head off these cars is somewhat of a serious undertaking. I highly suggest that you do this in an area where you are gooing to have plenty of time to do it right and keep it clean.. For example, try to do it in a garage, not on the street.

Also, there is a lot of work that needs to be done in order to strip everything down to the point where the head can be removed.. Here's a short list of what needs to be removed/disassembled..

Belts
radiator, and associated hoses
water pump (might as well while you're there)
timing covers
lower crank pulley
timing belt
valve cover
intake manifold
fuel injectors and rail
all fuel injection hoses, boots
airflow meter
throttle body
exhaust manifolds

Ouch...that sounds painfully familiar...

same thing happened to me...10 out of 12 valves bent, pistons ended up ok though(THANK YOU-KNOW-WHO). Try to find a used head....but if you end up rebuilding your old head with new valves and seals, then change the piston rings too!!!! Otherwise you will probably get blow-by and burn a lot of oil like my car did after the head was redone. I ended up going back and paying the shot all over again to have the rings redone, but while I was in there, I threw in some new rod bearings too. Would have been stupid not to. Good luck man....hopefully you get out of it cheaper than I did....

I agree here... get the bottom end rebuilt at the same time...

I rebuilt my head three months ago...

Last night, I spun a bearing, probably due to the increased compression
