'87 325 IC Throttle Problem

When I accelerate above about 1800 RPM and then release the accelerator, the RPM drops smoothly until exactly 1000 RPM, then suddenly climbs for about a half a second (causing car to "lurch" if in 1st gear) and then continues its decent to approx. 600 RPM. I have checked the throttle position switch and it is working fine. The AFM flap moves smoothly (but that is all that I have checked in the AFM) I have replaced the Idle Control Valve and O2 sensor. I have removed the plastic boot between the AFM and the throttle and it is fine. Resealed the little metal hose bibbs for the brake booster vac. line and ICV. The problem is not intermittant, it does it ever time! I'm stumped. I do have an intermittant check engine light. Help!

Most likely a vacuum leak somewhere in the fuel injection system...

It's not just the throttle body...

You also need to check the vacuum hose going to the chacoal cansiter under the throttle body, the hose going from the valve cover the the throttle, the air boot from the AFM to the throttle body, valve cover gasket, oil filler gasket, etc...

I just bought a '92 318ic and it does the exact same thing. Time to follow the vacum trail. Thanks Jared

If I werte you, I'd just replace all the vacuum lines. Vacuum hose is cheap. Go down to your FLAPS and buy what you need and cut it to fit..
