Window won't operate

My power windows won't work. If you pressed the buttons enough they would eventually go up or down, now, nothing. I can hear a buzzing in the door when you press the button. Is there maintance or rebuild you can do to the motors? How can I check the swithches

does it do this on all the doors?

sounds like the motor may have jumped a cog or something.. Cant do much with out more info or seeing a pic of the inside of the door.

Checking switches is easy... I highly doubt all the switches failed at once, so you just pull them out of the console, and swap them. if th switch doesnt work, you'll know...

Ok... the driver side went first and while the passenger side was still working (occasionally) I switched switches. No luck. Now, as I said, both power windows are out. With the price of the window motors, I wanted to cover all the bases before I had to spend a lot of money. TIA. 1986 325e

intermittent operation would suggest that possibly the motors are worn, however its pretty unusual that both would fail at the same time

?

Thanks Simon S that did the trick for the passenger side switch ( really gunky) The driver side was just as dirty. Except when I push the driver side switch I hear a ticking noise in side the door, with no movement.

Take off the door panel and have a look inside..

Did just that.... hit the window motor with a wrench and it started working. I greased the window tracks and it works like a charm. Thanks for all the help.

No problem... Sometimes it's just that simple...
