Aux fan not running after tests done 89 325i

Hi, I am trying to figure out why the aux fan doesn't turn on when the temp is at red hot. I tested it with a jumper wire and it runs fine at high and low speed. I then replaced the thermo switch to a new one thinkin it's faulty and still doesn't run even when the reading on the temp guage is at red. The radiator is about a year old and it is not clogged or anything. I also replaced the water pump and thermostat and temp gauge still reads overheating. Should I switch out the thermostat to a lower degree one? please help, thanks.

I don't know why your aux fan isn't coming on, but if your car is reaching the red-hot mark during the Winter in the Bay Area, than something isn't working right.

I can barely get my e30 to reach the half way mark after hard driving.

Did you make sure you bled all the air out of the system? These cars can be a ***** to bleed... And air in the system would cause this...

Hey Jared, I loosened the screw on top of the thermostat housing to bleed the air out. I will try flushing out the system and check everything to make sure nothing is clogged when I get the new thermostat. Hopefully that will work. thanks

What was the problem?

On my own fan, I found that the switches only kick onb at a ridicoulosly high temp, so I re-wired the connector to a manual switch on the dash to allow me to turn it on when needed. I also wired the switch so that when the A/C is on, it always blows at high speed. This has helped the A/C blow colder as well..

When the engine temp was at red, the aux fan never turned on even after I bought a new one. I also tested the switch with jumper wires and it works. It just dosn't turn of on its own at high temperature. Your idea with a manual switch is really cool. Did you use a 3 way switch to control high and low speed? Thanks Jared.
