Manual Sunroof Swap--Help Please

I've got an 87 E30 325 parts car with a working manual sunroof and I want to put use it to make my other 87 E30 manual sunroof work. I don't know what's wrong with the broken one. It wont open at all. I'm having a hard time with the headliner, which I'm not even sure has to come out. Any help would be appreciated.

Does the motor operate but not open the sunroof when you press the button?

Both cars have a crank type sunroof. The good car's roof doesn't work and the parts car has a working sunroof. I'm looking for the easiest way to get the roof working in the good car (1987 E30). Right now the roof will not open or close. It's slightly cracked open but doesn't leak at the moment. When I turn the handle to tighten (close) the roof the handle spins and clicks. If I try to open it you can see tension being relieved but will not open. Any ideas??

Take off the cover and have a look, sounds like a stripped gear...

I thought about trying to just replace the gear mechanism. I'll probably just do that. Does anyone have a drawing or exploded view of how the moonroof works? Not just the gear but the whole thing. That would be a big help.
